makes me laugh

We have been home a lot over the past week due to sickness. Ugh... it's been exhausting, but I think we are finally getting better. Yesterday, Kyra and I spent some time talking and trying to learn to communicate together. (We'll see how long this lasts with an almost 4 year old.) Kyra is trying to find and know her limits. Mom has been trying to do this for a while, but now she is becoming even more of her own person and doing it herself.
Kyra needed to go to the bathroom and insisted on going on her own. It has been on and off, if she feels like she needs/wants help. I said, "Ok, go." She went, came back, and I asked the mom question, "Did you wash your hands?" Kyra has always been able to make me laugh with her responses. She stood there for a minute and didn't say anything. So again I ask, "Kyra, did you wash your hands?" I could see the wheels turning but wasn't sure what was going to come out. Finally, Kyra asks, "If I say no, does that mean I have to?" I, trying not to laugh, say "Yes, Go wash your hands!" She then turns away with a smirk and does it.
Later in the evening, I'm putting laundry away and the girls are playing in their room. I can hear commotion but it’s not too much and sounds harmless. After a few minutes Maya comes telling me something and points to their room. (It’s nice having one of them keeping me informed on what's going on.) I redirect myself to the girls room. As soon as I get to the door Kyra says, "I won't jump off that anymore." I asked, "Jump off what?" Kyra~"the dresser." I was floored. She had taken all the pillows and blankets off their bed, piled them up, and was jumping off their 4 foot dresser. We sat down and had a talk. Luckily no one got hurt.

Today, I took the girls out for some fresh air. We decided to have a leftover pizza picnic party. Presley got to a point and said she was done. I asked if she wanted anymore and she said no. So I had her give her remaining half breadstick and crust of pizza to Elvis. She took the breadstick first. Then came back and got the crust. I watched mortified and laughing as Presley took the crust over to Elvis. She threw the crust toward Elvis which he went after. And then Presley picked up her breadstick off the ground, after Elvis had investigated it, and started eating it as fast as she could. Mortified of the germs that where taking place and laughing at the scene. I wish I had a video camera on her in that moment.

Oh the stories of my day to day life. It makes me smile. As frustrated as I can get, in the end I'm smiling and laughing at these great beautiful little girls. I love you love you girls!!

our first up the nose experience

The girls and I haven't done much today. We aren't feeling the best, especially mom. We have laid around watching movies all day. It has been very nice! And all of the sudden the quiet uneventful day got a little curve ball. The girls were having a small snack of dry cheerios. I escaped to go to the bathroom and soon was followed by Maya crying/whining about her nose. I asked if she bumped it. Her response, "yes." I then ask, "Can I kiss it?" Maya -"no." She continues to try to tell me about it and I continue to say, "Let me kiss it and make it feel better." Maya just wasn't having it. So, I pick her up and decide to look inside her nose since she keeps pointing to it and the outside looks ok. There in her right nostril looks like the bottom of cheerio. Now, I ask, "Maya, did you put a cheerio inside your nose?" Maya's response, "Yes." For a moment I wonder how am I going to get this out? Then, sadly, I remember an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond. In the episode they discuss this type of situation. The answer, Crunch and Blow. So I decide to pinch Maya's nose together. Nothing happened. I heard no crunching. Then I grab some toilet paper and ask her to blow her nose. (which is a chore for most 2 year olds) Maya tries and again nothing happens. About the time I'm starting to panic, she sneezes. Out comes the cheerio along with some extra snot. All is well again. Maya runs off like nothing happened. I ran after her to talk to her about not putting things up her nose. After some time lapsed I quizzed her. "Maya are you going to put anything up your nose again?" Maya - "No." Hopefully that’s the truth, next time we might not be so lucky with a quick recovery.

melt my heart...

Ok, I've said it several times of several months that I wanted to get started blogging. I think it will be great to look back on and read stories of the girls. Let's see if I can keep it up. I'm going to try and jot down just a few stories as they happen throughout the day(s).

To kick it off here are a few things that melt my heart about my beautiful girls.

"sank you momma" from Presley when I give her something she has asked for. Or, "Pease momma" when asking for something she wants.

When Maya just wants to snuggle. She is a like a sack of potatoes. She'll just come and plop down, snuggle in, and give you all her body weight. She likes to "axe on the ouch." (translation- "relax on the couch.)

I love to watch Kyra's face light up when she asks to do something and I say yes. Its a face of pure delight. I especially love it when its over something small like chewing a piece of gum.
